This Week and Last in Franklin, TN

Being long time residents of Franklin, we thought it would be nice to highlight our fair city each week. On Fridays we will continue to bring you our Local Love features. We will now have a Franklin Scene post each Monday as well.

In our Monday posts we plan to focus on events taking place in and around Franklin, update you on new businesses coming to the area and sprinkle in some random factoids and tidbits for good measure. Enjoy!

Seen On the Scene

Grays Drugstore Sign in Franklin TNDowntown Franklin has been absolutely buzzing about the recent lighting and grand opening of  Gray’s. The property for this new restaurant/entertainment venue is none other than Andy Marshall, owner the Puckett restaurants. The owner/operators are a husband and wife team who grew up in Franklin.

August 4th the doors opened with a Taste of Gray’s, an event that closed Main Street and allowed people to tour the historic building and get a preview of the menu. Local favorite photographer Andrea Farmer strolled by with her son, hoping to get a glimpse inside. With a crowd of around 400 competing, the lines were just a bit too long. Like us, Andrea is planning to return in the coming weeks for a full rundown of this exciting new hotspot on our square.

Franklin Factoid

Downtown Franklin TN StatueJust down from Gray’s stands one of Franklin’s most prominent stone statues. This statue was a gift from the United Daughter’s of the Confederacy, who raised money to fund a monument to represent the Confederate soldiers who fought in the Civil War.

Next time you are on the square, check out the monument and see if you notice the chip in the soldier’s hat. It happened while the statue was being raised.

  • Or perhaps you are one of the lucky ones that scored a ticket to the Franklin Theatre this weekend for The Second City Improv Allstars. You know, the theater company where people like Tina  Fey, Steve Carrell, etc gleaned their comedic chops. We are very jealous of you and expect a full report come Monday!
