Social Media DIY

Social media can be daunting – if you try to do everything at once. If you’re starting out in the viral marketing world, focus and define your goal. Here are a few tips for getting your arms around the social media maze.

  • Take your time. Don’t expect to gain hundreds of thousands of followers at once. You want to build a customer base that is loyal, interested, and communicative. So appeal to your audience with patience in mind.
  • Have fun. That’s the whole point of social media! When tweeting, posting, and blogging – be yourself. Personality will make others respond to you. No one wants to follow or friend a robot. Have a laugh while you’re at it, share inspirational messages, and keep the promotion professional, but relatable.
  • Target your audience. Reach out to those groups on LinkedIn that you feel are a good fit, engage on Facebook with other people’s posts (the new OPP), and get comfortable tweeting and retweeting your potential clients/customers.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, but with perseverance, a little elbow grease and time, you can manage and maintain a strong social presence.
